Preview: 5 things about Paris - Fredericia

On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain Handball take on Fredericia at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin. Find out all you need to know about this EHF Champions League Matchday 4 fixture.

1 - Form

The capital club is growing in strength with each passing week, showing itself to be more and more clinical in attack. Les Rouge et Bleu have been unstoppable in the Liqui Moly StarLigue, with two fine wins over neighbors Tremblay (32-40) and Ivry (39-25). In the Champions League, our Parisians bounced back perfectly with a hard-fought victory over Plock (23-24).

For their part, Fredericia have found their feet after a tumultuous start to the campaign. Surprised on the very first day of the season against Holstebro (29-28), the Scandinavians fell three times in Europe and were no match for the top-of-the-table Danish league clash against Aalborg (26-32). However, last week's break from the Champions League did Fredericia a world of good, with three league wins in a row. The Danes are now full of confidence and arrive in Paris determined to pull off the greatest feat in their history.

2 - A daunting schedule for Les Rouge et Bleu

After a week's continental break, the Champions League is back in full swing, and our Parisians are continuing their marathon. A number of crucial fixtures are on the agenda, both in front of their home fans at Coubertin and on some perilous away trips. After three rounds, Raul Gonzalez's men are in fifth place in Group A, and remain in touch with the leading duo, just two points behind Sporting CP and Bucharest, both of whom have a perfect record. The Romanians travel to Coubertin next week, giving Paris a second Champions League fixture in front of their home fans. The Parisians then face an intense trip to Berlin before rounding off the first half of the group phase with a visit from Sporting CP, the surprise package of this early European campaign.

3 - Unprecedented

The only newcomers to this 2024-2025 edition, Fredericia will be challenging Paris for the first time in their history this Wednesday. As runners-up to Aalborg in the Danish league last season, Gudmundur Gudmundsson's men qualified for Europe for the first time in their history. Thus the Scandinavians are making their Euroepan debut in the most prestigious of competitions, but are still in search of their first point.

4 - Group A fixtures

Alongside the meeting between Paris and Fredericia, Pelister play host to Sporting CP in a clash of opposites. The Portuguese, who have a perfect record so far, take on the Macedonians. On Thursday, Plock will try to put an end to their nightmarish start to the campaign by opening their account on a perilous trip to Berlin. The Germans are on a two-game winning streak and are looking good in their return to the Champions League after an absence of over a decade. Meanwhile, Veszprém and Bucharest face off in a summit clash. A few days after winning the Club World Cup, the Hungarians will be looking to continue their positive run against the Romanians, who have been brilliant since the start of the competition.
