Eurofarm Pelister 24-24 Sporting CP
After 17 consecutive defeats since their Champions League debut last season, Pelister created a sensation at the Arena Boro Curlevski in Bitola. The Macedonians picked up their first-ever point in the competition after an excellent team performance. Ahead at the break (30': 15-13), Pelister stalled in the second half, allowing the Portuguese not only to pull level but also to take the lead. However, despite trailing by three goals a few minutes from the buzzer (58‘: 21-24), the Macedoniansdug deep and put three unanswered goals past Lisbon to equalise in the dying seconds (60’: 24-24). The Portuguese, who were still the only unbeaten team in Group A, thus saw their perfect start come to an end. They face Füchse Berlin next week.
Füchse Berlin 25-24 Wisla Plock
Defeated on the opening day against Veszprém, the Germans have found their rhythm more than ever in this group phase. Against Plock, Berlin picked up their third consecutive win and now have the same record as the capital club. After losing to Andreas Palicka at the buzzer last time out, the Poles conceded another defeat in the dying moments and remain stuck on zero points in a start to the season that has fallen far short of their expectations. On the next matchday, Plock play host to Pelister in what could well be a decisive game for the rest of the competition.
Veszprém 36-24 Dinamo Bucharest
Just a few days after their triumph over Magdeburg in the Club World Cup final, Veszprém went from strength to strength. Led by superb performances from two former Parisians - Nedim Remili (6 goals) and Rodrigo Corrales (12 saves) - Xavi Pascual's side put in another impressive display at home and are now level on points with their opponents. Their record is identical to that of Les Rouge et Bleu, who also have six points after four games. Bucharest, the capital club's opponents at Coubertin on Thursday, thus saw their run of 12 consecutive wins in all competitions, which began with their defeat in the Final4 of the EHF European League last season, come to an end. Veszprém, for their part, will have the opportunity to follow up their win asthey play host to Fredericia, who are still in search of their first point on the continental stage.
