From the archives: Szeged and Paris

EHF Champions League mainstays Szeged and Paris will face each other this Thursday for the eleventh time in their history - the perfect opportunity to delve into the archives of both clubs and take a closer look at the players who have worn the two jerseys.

Kent Robin Tonnesen (Szeged 2021-2023 / Paris since 2023)

It is impossible to start this list without mentioning Kent Robin Tonnesen. The Norwegian right-back played for Szeged between 2021 and 2023 before joining the capital club at the start of last season. Under Juan Carlos Pastore, he won a Hungarian league title and claimed cup glory in the space of two seasons. He added to his honours list in his first year with Les Rouge et Bleu, winning the French league and the Trophée des Champions.

Petar Nenadić (Szeged 2008-2010 / Paris 2023)

A few months before Kent's arrival, Paris had already welcomed a former Szeged player to its ranks: Petar Nenadić. Recruited as a medical wild card to compensate for Nikola Karabatic's injury, the centre half contributed to the capital club's ninth consecutive French championship title. Our supporters will remember in particular his performance against Montpellier (38-23). With seven goals, he enabled his team to retake the top spot on the table with five games to go. The Serbian international then continued his world tour by heading to Saudi Arabia - another step in the adventure that had taken him to Szeged between 2008 and 2010.

Luka Stepancic (Paris 2016-2019 / Szeged 2019-2024)

It's no secret that the Parisians often know how to rise to the big occasions. Before Nenadic against Montpellier, it was Luka Stepancic who led the way in a clash with Nantes (34-29) in 2019. That evening, the right-back found the net nine times to guide his team to a crucial success in the race for the title. In three seasons with Paris, the Croatian international won five trophies before joining Szeged in 2019. Before his departure last summer, Luka Stepancic often crossed paths with the capital club, but also with Kent Robin Tonnesen, with whom he played at Szeged for two seasons.

José Manuel Sierra (Paris 2012-2014 / Szeged 2014-2018)

Another globetrotter, José Manuel Sierra had his first experience abroad when he joined Paris in 2012, at the age of 34. The Spanish world champion - now Alberto Entrerrios' assistant in Limoges - spent two seasons in the City of Light, forming a solid duo with Raul Gonzalez's current assistant Patrice Annonay. The two goalkeepers were part of the squad that won the first French championship title in the club's history. After two successful seasons, the three-time EHF Champions League winner with Barcelona continued his journey to Szeged where, in 2018, he helped the Hungarian club win its first national championship title in eleven years.

Antonio Garcia Robledo (Paris 2012-2014 / Szeged 2014-2016)

A trajectory perfectly copied by his compatriot Antonio Garcia Robledo. Arriving in Paris in 2012, the left-back also contributed to the capital club's first championship title before joining Szeged two years later.
