Five things on Toulouse - PSG Handball

Still undefeated in the Lidl StarLigue, Paris Saint-Germain Handball will play their rescheduled Round 20 Lidl Starligue fixture when they travel to Fenix de Toulouse in Tuesday night. A very special match for several players!

1 - The table
On Saturday, Les Rouge et Bleu continued their flawless campaign with a 21st victory in as many games by disposing of nearest rivals Montpellier (31-28). They are now six points clear of second-placed MHB with nine games to go. Fenix, for their part, have had a rollercoaster ride. In 22 matches, they have won nine, drawn two and lost eleven. However, they are on a four-game unbeaten streak, including a 29-29 tie with heavy-hitters Nantes. Toulouse sit seventh on 20 points, but could be overtaken by sides with games in hand.

2 - Old ties
The Palais Des Sports André-Brouat will be the setting for some old friends to meet up! Among them, two of our players will be on a court where they played for Toulouse. They are our right-winger, Ferran Solé Sala and centre-half Luc Steins. The Spanish international played for four years in La Ville Rose, where he made his Lidl StarLigue debut, having signed from Granollers. Until his departure for Paris this summer, he scored 421 times. The Dutchman started the season at La Garonne, where he scored ten goals (57 last season). Initially on loan, he recently signed a four-year contract with LesRouge et Bleu. In the opposing ranks, Toulouse coach Philippe Gardent will meet the team with whom he was crowned French Champion in 2013 and 2015. Sadou Ntanzi will face the club from which he is out on loan, while Edouard Kempf - who turned in an excellent performance the first time the two sides met this season - will be up against the team that gave him his chance at the top level.

3 - Head to head
On 9 October 2020, Edouard Kempf managed the best goal total of his young career in Lidl StarLigue by finding the net nine times. Despite his team's defeat (41-35), he had negotiated his return to Coubertin well. It should be noted that at that point in the season, Luc was still a Fenix player. More generally, Paris Saint-Germain Handball dominates the debates in terms of historical confrontations: heading into this 32nd Lidl Starligue meeting between these two sides, they had 25 wins, four losses and two draws. They could also string together a 13th win in a row in the fixture, but also a 19th game without a single defeat against Toulouse. As a reminder, this match-up was also that of the 2018 Coupe de la Ligue final, in Metz, won by our players (40-30).

4 - Key stats
With the best attack (727 goals scored) and best defence (537 goals conceded), Raul Gonzalez's men are at the top of every table in our league. But while the home side may not have a strong collective record (eighth in attack, eighth in defence), several of their individual players are shining. We are thinking in particular of their Serbian left-winger, Nemanja Ilic, who is currently the third on the Lidl Starligue scorers chart with 125 goals (our top scorers, Mikkel Hansen and Nedim Remili, have 94 and 91 respectively). As for the goalkeepers, we will see a match within a match between Fenix's goalkeeper Cesar De Almeida (136 saves) and Paris' last line of defence, Vincent GĂ©rard, who has made 149 saves since the beginning of the season.
