All you need to know about PSG Handball - Chambéry

Paris Saint-Germain Handball is back in the League Cup on Saturday. In Metz, they are taking part in their last event of the year 2021, on the occasion of a very attractive Final4. In the semi-final, the Parisians face Chambéry.

Defending the title
Les Rouge et Bleu are travelling to Moselle to defend their trophy! Indeed, they have won the last three editions of the competition. The first was in 2017, in Reims, against Nantes (31-27). The following year, in Metz, they defeated Toulouse (40-30) and finally, in 2019, they defeated Montpellier (31-25), at the Antarès in Le Mans. It should be noted that with three finals won (there were also three lost in 2005, 2006 and 2016), the capital club are the second-most successful team inCoupe de la Ligue history, behind Montpellier, who have claimed ten titles).

The campaigns
To reach the Final4, the Savoyards of Chambéry had to get past two sides tough sides, and both times the result came down to the smallest of details. First, they won against Saint-Raphaël 26-28 before facing Aix in the quarter-final, when they won thanks to a goal by Sebastian Skube just before the buzzer (27-26). Chambéry's qualification owes a debt to top scorer Alexandre Tritta (11 goals) and last bastion Harun Hodzic, third on the competition's 'keepers chart with 19 saves.

Thanks to their participation in the EHF Champions League, Raul Gonzalez's men went straight into the quarter-finals. They faced Toulouse in the Rose City and brought back a very nice victory (25-39). Elohim Prandi's attacking performance was particularly noteworthy, as he managed to score from all six of his shots.

The league clash
This season, Chambéry and Paris have already faced each other: in Liqui Moly StarLigue Round 6 action at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin. Our team were dominant despite a valiant showing from the visitors (36-29), thanks in particular to eight goals from Kamil Syprzak.

Head to head
This will be the third time that the two teams have faced each other in the Coupe de la Ligue. So far, they have each won once and lost once: in 2010, during a semi-final that was played over two legs. The first was won by the Parisians (30-28), who ended up losing the tie a few days later in Chambéry (33-20).
