Verratti: 'We are already a big team'

Italy international Marco Verratti looked back at Paris Saint-Germain's sixth Ligue 1 title triumph in seven years!

Marco, you and Thiago have both won six Ligue 1 titles now... what does it represent for you?
"A lot, because it's the trophy you with consistency and it's the most important trophy on offer. It's played over 38 matches, the longest competition, the best for us personally and also for the club's place in history. People think it's easy but it's not - two years ago we finished behind Monaco… But these final matches of the season, when there isn't anything at stake, they're not easy. This isn't my first trophy, but it's still a fantastic feeling to be champion and we celebrated it a lot between us players because we know just how hard we worked."

The statistics show, and history will show, that this was an exceptional Ligue 1 season...
"We had an incredible season. We were really very strong in the first six months and we could have beaten nearly every record. It's normal that the second half of the season is different to the first; there are the Cup matches, the big cChampions League matches and they all mean you drop a few points in the league.  Our last five matches weren't good, but there are many factors. We had a lot of injured players, we lacked intensity. But it takes nothing away from our first six months of the season."

How was life with Thomas Tuchel, who radically changed the way Paris Saint-Germain play football?
"With someone like the coach, you know straight away if it's going to go well or not. He's one of those people that in just two or three weeks can create a strong bond with everyone. I think all the players appreciate the way he coaches, his communication, and especially his tactics, because we all know what he wants. I think it's an advantage for us to be able to play so many sifferent formations and styles to adapt to our opponents. We understood him immediately and started winning matches straight away."

What does Paris Saint-Germain have to do to keep progressing?
"I think we have to keep working harder. It's great the coach has signed an extension because he knows the club and what we have to improve. If we change everything the whole time, you have to start over from zero. Since I started here we have won a lot of silverware, despite a number of changes. But today, I think we need to continue to listen to the coach. He knows what we need to improve the team, even if I think we are already a great team."

What are your future objectives with Paris Saint-Germain?
"My biggest motivation is to achieve something great in the Champions League. I know that the supporters are hoping for that trophy and I hope we can offer it to them. I have been here for a long time and I think it would be great for the club."
