Record-breaking Mbappé comes to the rescue at the Parc

The Parc des Princes crowd held its breath until the very end of last night’s 1-1 draw between Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United, with Kylian Mbappé levelling things up through a late penalty to rescue a point for Les Rouge et Bleu.

Deep into added time, it was a goal that would go down in Paris Saint-Germain history. With the scoreboard clock reading 97:18, this was something that had never been seen before at the capital club!

That's right – Kylian Mbappé's strike became the latest goal ever to be scored by Les Parisiens, thereby beating Antoine Kombouaré's unforgettable header in the 4-1 win over Real Madrid in the second leg of a UEFA Cup quarter-final tie on 18th March 1993.

In a strange twist of fate, Randal Kolo Muani had actually beaten the record for the latest goal ever to be scored in Ligue 1 four days earlier, scoring at 95:51 in the 5-2 win over Monaco.

On 13th December, Paris will look to seal their place in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage away to Borussia Dortmund. For the sake of Les Rouge et Bleu's fans, let's hope that the winning goal is scored slightly earlier in the match in order to avoid an emotional rollercoaster as intense as the one that they experienced at the Parc des Princes last night...
