Paris and Strasbourg play out a classic at the Meinau

After an open game from start to finish, Paris Saint-Germain and RC Strasbourg shared the points in matchday 35 of Ligue 1 (3-3). Here's a look back at the game.

A week after a historic victory that allowed the club from the capital to make its way into French football history, Mauricio Pochettino took his men to Alsace in one of the last matches of the season. The Argentinian started with a 3-4-3 formation with the Messi-Mbappé-Neymar Jr trio up front.

We knew it in advance: it was not going to be an easy task. This Friday evening, the French Champions faced Strasbourg team who were courageous, determined and above all in search of every single point to try to win a European spot. All this in a wild atmosphere in the Stade de la Meinau. It's no surprise that the Alsatians showed determination for every ball from the start of the match, and a thirst to press their guests very high. It's a good thing they did, because Kevin Gameiro managed to open the score (1-0, 2'), before Thomasson (9') and Bellegarde (17') made the Parisian defence nervous.

The Rouge et Bleu were left to rely on the flashes of brilliance from their attacking stars to give themselves some breathing space. It took a brilliant pass from Neymar Jr to send the rocket-like Mbappé through on goal, where a clinical finish rounded off a blistering run (1-1, 23'). It was a brilliant move by the pair that allowed the rest of the Parisian team to make their way into the game. Messi (27'), Ramos (27') and Neymar Jr (30') went close to breaking the deadlock.

By the end of the second half, the score were level, and the show carried on. But it was the club from the capital that struck first! It was the first time that the capital club had taken the lead in the game, with a superb triangle move initiated by Neymar Jr and played in by Mbappé. Achraf Hakimi, who was given the ball on a plate by his teammate, gave Paris the lead with a close-range effort (1-2, 64'). The league’s top scorer and assister was intending on keeping up his status. Our number 7 took advantage of a misplaced back-pass to burst through and finish brilliantly (1-3, 68’). As a result, he has been decisive 9 times in 3 away matches... That's it.

The home side did not give up, however, and Diallo (and Verratti's thigh) reduced the deficit from a corner (2-3, 75’). Buoyed by the enthusiastic crowd at the Stade de la Meinau, the two teams went for broke, putting on a great show for the last ten minutes.

Leo Messi had a chance to score past Sels with one of his trademark efforts (89'). But it was at the other end of the pitch that the last goal of this incredible match was scored. Caci's powerful strike earned his team a point (3-3, 92'). Although the champions put in a good performance despite the star already being embroidered on their hearts, RCSA definitely deserved the point.
