O FUTURO

A prodigy, a precocious talent, the future is now. Paris Saint-Germain have unveiled their new attacking recruit Gonçalo Ramos, the rising star from Benfica. Paris Saint-Germain's new striker was born into the world of football - his father was a player and introduced him to the world of the beautiful game by the mere fact of circumstance.

Even as a youngster, Ramos was already making an impression. Starting out in midfield as a No.8, he scored 30 goals a season, quickly setting himself apart from the other toddlers before climbing the ranks at phenomenal speed. At the age of 12, he joined Benfica's youth academy, having been rejected by their arch-rivals Sporting a few years earlier.

With the Lisbon club, he shone, following in the footsteps of many of his legendary countrymen. A consistent performer, he made 46 appearances in all competitions in season 2021-2022, then 47 the following season. This most recent campaign was his most prolific in terms of scoring, with an awesome 27 goals (19 in La Liga, 7 in the UEFA Champions League) and 12 assists. With credentials like these, a move to Paris started to really make sense.

But he is far from an unknown. Young but already very talented, young but already the name on everyone's lips. Ramos has shone for club and country and with Benfica, he crossed paths with Paris Saint-Germain last season. He scored seven goals in 14 Champions League games last season, only for Benfica to be ousted by eventual finalists Inter Milan in the quarter-finals. What better way to make a name for yourself than by shining on the European stage?

Not only that: in the 22-23 season, marked by the World Cup in Qatar, Gonçalo Ramos exploded onto the world stage with his national team. He scored a hat-trick in Portugal's 6-1 win over Switzerland in the Round of 16, his second, third and fourth goals for the Seleção.

These feats attracted interest from all directions, but in the end it was in Paris that the young striker decided to take his career to the next level.

?? DID YOU KNOW??

Gonçalo has two nicknames in the world of football. The first is 'O Feiticeiro', or 'The Magician' in English. It's easy to understand - he's incredible with the ball.

The second is 'O Pistoleiro', a nickname that comes from his celebrations. Indeed, when he scores, Ramos makes this gesture that is now known to everyone. The origin of this celebration? It comes from his father, who advised him to have a unique celebration that would set him apart from all the others. And he succeeded!
