Les Parisiennes get back on the front foot against Bordeaux

Paris Saint-Germain’s women’s team won 3-0 away to Girondins de Bordeaux on Matchday 8 of D1 Arkema this afternoon. Let’s take a look back at the game!

After a two-week international break, Les Parisiennes returned to league action today, as they looked to get back to winning ways away to Girondins de Bordeaux.

Paris manager Gérard Prêcheur opted for a midfield trio of Oriane Jean-François, Grace Geyoro and Jackie Groenen, whilst in attack, Ramona Bachmann was tasked with supporting her two strike partners, Sandy Baltimore and Kadidiatou Diani.

The opening stages of the game were largely dominated by Les Parisiennes, who gradually saw their opponents raise their level. With proceedings starting to even themselves out, the first big chance of the opening 45’ came for the home side.

Then, just before the break, a corner from Groenen found France international Diani, who hit a remarkable half-volley to find the back of the net! (0-1, 45’).

In the second half, Les Rouge et Bleu began to take the game by the scruff of the neck as they looked to double their lead. Shortly after Diani had lost out in a one-v.-one with Mylène Chavas, it was Baltimore’s turn to come up against the Bordeaux keeper. The Paris striker combined with Bachmann, who played the ball back to her with a first-time pass into the box, before the French winger superbly sidestepped past Chavas and finished into an empty net (0-2, 58’).

With the final quarter of an hour approaching, the capital club managed to get a third through Oriane Jean-François. The Paris midfielder, who had put in a top-drawer performance, rose highest from 12 yards out to head home from Baltimore’s perfectly executed free kick (0-3, 71’).

Sarah Bouhaddi and co. even came close to a fourth goal following a slick counter-attacking move led by Diani, who played in Manssita Traoré at point-blank range, but the 19-year-old saw her sidefooted attempt hit the crossbar.

Following a convincing second-half performance, Les Parisiennes came away from Gironde with a comfortable win that temporarily put them top of D1 Arkema before Olympique Lyonnais’s 1-0 win over Le Havre AC this afternoon.

The next assignment for Gérard Prêcheur’s side is in three days’ time, when they host Albanian outfit KFF Vllaznia Shkodër on Matchday 3 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage.
