Jackie Groenen: 'A decisive match for our season'

On the eve of the UEFA Women's Champions League second qualifying round against Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain's Jackie Groenen answered questions from PSG TV and the media. Extracts.

THE LAST OUTING AGAINST Lyon

"I think there were lots of positives in that match against Lyon, in the way we played, the style we adopted, and the performance we delivered. We demonstrated that we could maintain possession even against a team like Lyon. Of course, we are very disappointed with the defeat. We would have liked things to go differently, and I think we need to improve in certain key areas to achieve that. But we have worked hard over these past two weeks, and we are ready for tomorrow's match."

THE CHANGE OF COACH

"Honestly, I think that the transition has been smooth. I don't think we've completely abandoned all the principles of the previous coach. Of course, there are also some changes, which is normal when you change coaches. But in my opinion, there haven't been that many changes. It's more about continuing to develop what already exists."

HER FEELINGS ABOUT THIS PARIS TEAM

"It's very enjoyable to be a part of this group. There are lots of talented players here, and so many different skills. I think we need to keep improving every week to harness all these talents and to make the most of them. We've been working on this since pre-season, and we still have room for progress. But it's a great joy to be here in Paris.

Today, I believe we have a team capable of beating anyone. However, I also think that Manchester United have a good team, so I'm looking forward to it with excitement. I think it will be a great football match to watch, and I hope we can win this double header. That's our objective, so we can continue to progress in the UEFA Women's Champions League."

THE MATCH AGAINST MANCHESTER UNITED

"It's very strange to be back here, but it's also very nice. I am very excited for this match. Two great teams will be going up against each other. Manchester United is a club that I have affection for given that I played here, but let's be honest: tomorrow, I really want to beat them. That's what we want to do.

I think it's logical; we want to participate in this competition and go as far as possible. It's one of the biggest competitions in the world, so we want to be a part of it. Tomorrow, we'll have a tough game on our hands, I think, and it will be the same next week. They are not an easy opponent to get past to make it through to the group stage. This is an important match, one that will be decisive for our season."
