Goals galore for Parisians against Bordeaux

Paris Saint-Germain's Women's team enjoyed a goal-fest on Saturday, beating Bordeaux at the Campus PSG on Matchday 13 of the D1 Arkema. Here's a look back at the victory.

Three days after their win over Reims, the Rouge et Bleu were back at the Campus PSG on Saturday for a league clash against Girondines de Bordeaux. The aim was clear: to maintain momentum ahead of the upcoming European fixtures by securing a seventh straight win in all competitions.

With just a few days to go before hosting Ajax in the Champions League, Jocelyn Prêcheur decided to make a number of changes. Katarzyna Kiedrzynek was in goal for the Rouge et Bleu, with Thiniba Samoura and Elisa de Almeida in central defence. The flanks were occupied by Nicole Payne on the right and Sakina Karchaoui on the left. In midfield, Korin Albert operated alongside the pairing of Grace Geyoro and Amalie Vangsgaard. In attack, Marie-Antoinette Katoto played through the middle, flanked by Laurina Fazer on the right and Ramona Bachmann on the left.

From the offset, the Parisians signalled their intent by taking control of the game. In midfield, Ramona Bachmann found Marie-Antoinette Katoto in space. The French international made no mistake in front of goal, but the assistant referee cut short the Rouge et Bleu joy by flagging for offside (7'). Undeterred, Jocelyn Prêcheur's players took their time to build their game, focusing on their collective strengths. Elisa de Almeida released Ramona Bachman, who beat her marker before firing a shot towards the far corner of the net, forcing the opposition goalkeeper into a fine save to keep her team level (16').

Despite numerous attempts, Paris were unable to capitalise on their dominance of the game, but they finally made the difference on the half-hour mark. Grace Geyoro was pushed inside the penalty area, and she took justice into her own hands by opening the scoring from the spot (1-0, 28'). The Red and Blue captain then went close to getting another. Her effort went wide though, after she had been set up well by Korbin Albert (32'). The striker then turned provider, sending in a pinpoint cross for Amalie Vangsgaard, who doubled the lead against an already beaten Bordeaux goalkeeper (2-0, 36').

With the momentum firmly in their favour, our ladies continued their charge a few minutes later through Marie-Antoinette Katoto, whose shot gave the Girondins goalkeeper no chance (3-0, 40'). In added time of the first half, the Parisian No9 doubled her tally following great work by Ramona Bachmann, allowing Paris to go into the break with a big advantage (45', 4-0).

Jocelyn Prêcheur made three changes at the interval, with Clare Hunt, Lieke Martens and Sandy Baltimore replacing Elisa de Almeida, Grace Geyoro and Marie-Atoinette Katoto respectively. After the break, the Parisians returned with the same intent, Sandy Baltimore seeing her effort hit the crossbar (55'). The French international finally made her mark on the hour mark, scoring the fifth goal for the Rouge et Bleu with an unstoppable effort (61', 5-0). With victory already sealed, Jocelyn Prêcheur took the opportunity to inject some fresh legs into the final twenty minutes by bringing on Tabita Chawinga in place of Ramona Bachmann. The Red and Blue striker wasted no time in adding to the scoreline, bringing her tally of goals for the season to 8, in two stages (71', 6-0). The visitors then salvaged some pride by scoring their own goal immediately after (72', 6-1).

The goal was of no consequence, but it was enough to provoke Amalie Vangsgaard, who reacted quickly by taking advantage of a poor clearance from the Bordeaux goalkeeper to score her first brace for the Rouge et Bleu (84', 7-1). Jocelyn Prêcheur's side were not done yet, however, as Tabitha Chawinga grabbed a brace of her own to round off a splendid performance by the Parisians (88', 8-1).

Thanks to this record win, Paris remain second in D1 Arkema, five points behind Lyon, and are now six points clear of third-placed Paris FC.
