Gérard Prêcheur: "We stepped up a level"

Paris Saint-Germain's Women's Team coach and defender Viola Calligaris reflect on their 3-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven on Saturday August 19 at the Camp des Loges, the second pre-season game of the 2023-2024 season.

Gérard Prêcheur :

"Today's match was very interesting. We stepped up a level with the return of some international players. We were able to strengthen our team, our midfield and our backbone. The result was a very good first half, with a lot of pace for a pre-season game, which is what we asked of them. The second half was a little tougher, but that's to be expected at this stage of the season. There's a lot to be satisfied about.

The new recruits have a great attitude and are very competitive. It's going to bring a lot of energy to the squad. After taking part in a competition like the World Cup, it's not always easy to come back to the club.

It's important to be able to change systems. It's always good for a coach to have two complementary playing systems, like 3-5-2 and 4-3-3. The squad I have allows me to change systems, so it's worth considering."

Viola calligaris :

"It's good that we won, it was important for everyone. We reproduced well what we worked on during the week, but it's only the beginning so we have to keep going. I think we did well at the start, we defended well with each other, all three of us at the back.

It's good to play with two systems. I think it's important to stay flexible for the season. Physically, I'm still lacking a bit of rhythm, as I was a bit injured at the World Cup. But little by little, it's going to get better."
