Eva Gaetino: 'We are very motivated by the idea of playing at the Parc'

Paris Saint-Germain's American international, Eva Gaetino, spoke to PSG TV ahead of the second leg of the UEFA Women's Champions League semi-final between the club from the capital and Olympique Lyonnais, on Sunday 28 April at 16:00 at the Parc des Princes.

Eva, first of all, let's go back to the first leg match, dominated by Les Parisiennes before OL took control…

"Before the first leg match, there was like a flame within us, something I hadn't felt in a long time. I never felt weak during that game. I think we progressed in the areas that we needed to. For example, we defended differently at set pieces. In the first half, we also played in a different system that we had worked on during the week. We felt strong in these different areas."

A well-managed first part of the match, with the team winning 2-0, before being pegged back and then overtaken...

"I think everyone was ready for this battle. I also believe that our game plan and collective strength propelled us forward and allowed us to dominate. You could feel it on the pitch. I think if I could go back, after their first goal, I would find a way to slow down the game by pressing them and keeping them in their half of the field because they gained confidence after that first goal."

How's the team feeling ahead of the return leg?

"I don't just think, I know that we are ready and very determined. We're extremely excited to play at Parc des Princes, with the support of our fans, in such a magnificent stadium. I think it will be a 50-50 game. I don't believe that the Lyon players are superior to us. We are very competitive, strong and we can win this match."

What does the UEFA Women's Champions League mean to you?

"If you watch football, you know what the Champions League is. I grew up in a family of footballers and this competition was always on TV. Being in the position of some of my idols and women I watched growing up is truly incredible! I know how special it is and how much work it took to get here."

Since your arrival, you've been able to experience the Parc des Princes. What did you make of it?

"I loved playing there. It was simply amazing. The fans supported us throughout the match, constantly cheering us on. It really makes a difference. It's like playing with an extra player on your team. In a full stadium, with so many supporters, you feel very strong. All those people who are there for us and cheering us on... it helps us feel strong."
