All you need to know: Paris Saint-Germain - Real Madrid

The stats, stakes and history behind Tuesday's UEFA Women's Champions League encounter at the Parc des Princes.

THE HISTORY...

Paris Saint-Germain - Real Madrid CF, Act 1! The capital club is coming up against the Spanish side, who are in the UEFA Women's Champions League for the first time. It's also the first time the two sides will meet.

The clubs' men's teams have, of course, met several times, and they have also met in basketball, in 1996/97, when PSG Racing Basket was beaten by Madrid in the EuroCup semi-finals (57-62 in Madrid, 56-58 in Paris).

The women's team has already played seven times at the Parc des Princes: 18 October 2009 vs. Juvisy (1-0), 28 March 2015 against Glasgow City (5-0), 2 May 2016 vs. Lyon (0-1), 30 March 2017 against Bayern Munich (4-0), 29 April 2017 vs. Barcelona (2-0), 20 November 2020 against Lyon (1-0) and 24 March 2021, also against OL (0-1). Record so far: five wins, two losses, 18 goals scored, 2 conceded.

THE STAKES...

Last season, the reigning French champions reached the UEFA Women's Champions League semi-finals for the fifth time. In the quarter-finals, they ended the five season-long reign of Olympique Lyonnais at the summit of European football.

It's the ninth time the club has participated in the competition since 2011/12, finishing runners-up twice (2014/15 & 2016/17) and reaching the last four on three occasions (2015/16, 2019/20 & 2020/21).

It's Paris' 55th European game: 32 wins, eight draws, 14 defeats so far.

The Parisians are unbeaten in all competitions since the start of the season. They have won their first seven league matches, scoring 23 goals, and their two European games so far. They are yet to concede a goal in any competition.

KEYS TO THE match...

With a maximum six points so far, the two teams are well clear of Ukrainian outfit WFC Kharkiv and Icelandic club Breidablik (0 points) at the top of Group B.

Victory would take the Parisians a good way towards qualifying for the quarter-finals.

If she plays, Kheira Hamraoui will make her 100th competitive appearance for Paris Saint-Germain. She'll join the other 'centurions' in the squad: Grace Geyoro (144), Marie-Antoinette Katoto (137), Ashley Lawrence (120) and Kadidiatou Diani (113).
