Yann Genty: 'All that's missing is the fans'

On Thursday evening, Paris Saint-Germain Handball will play their third match in five days as they travel to Flensburg for their EHF Champions League Matchday 13 fixture. Parisian goalkeeper Yann Genty spoke about his team's European odyssey.

Psg.fr: Has the victory against Kielce (37-26) boosted you in the race for top spot in group A?
Yann Genty: Absolutely! We have to keep climbing the table and that's what we're doing. Collectively, it was perhaps our best European performance. Kielce gave up a little bit, but we didn't give up even when we were leading by a big margin. We had to give our all and prepare for the match in Flensburg...

Are you already starting to look at which opponent you might meet in the Round of 16?
I'm not, but some of them might be. But with the current situation, you can't really know. It's possible that some teams are figure out who their next opponents will be. The good thing is that everyone has qualified [laughs]. But our objective lies beyond the Round of 16.

What memories do you have of the first leg against Flensburg (28-29)?
We led for 50 minutes. On the whole, we controlled the game well, but we were caught out at the end of the match, both in attack and defence. It's a pity, because at that time, there was a big crowd in the arena. We've made progress since then. It was our first official game in seven months and we didn't actually play badly. There's no reason for us to think it will go badly for us in Flensburg.

What kind of game are you expecting on Thursday night?
A close one! Even without spectators, it's going to be tough. There will also be a lot at stake in terms of the race for first place. We'll have to use the same ingredients we produced against Kielce.

Is your busy schedule (four matches in one week) physically demanding?
Even though it's new for me, the internationals are used to it. At the World Championship, we had a match every two days. This is a decisive week! And then we play host to Elverum and Szeged, and they won't be easy matches either. Especially as everyone wants to climb the table. I am very happy to be playing in this competition. That's why I came here! All that's missing is the fans...
