Winning pre-season form continues

On Friday, Paris Saint-Germain Handball took part in their third warm-up match of the summer (after their first two victories on tour in Japan). This time, Les Rouge et Bleu travelled to Germany for a weekend of two encounters: first up, they faced Wetzlar in the Buderus Arena.

The match got off to a very even start. The German team will be back in league action very soon and their game is already on point. As such, the capital club found it difficult to contain the home side's attacking onslaughts, but fortunately Andreas Palicka pulled off a number of saves to keep his side in touch. The advantage swung back and forth regularly, but Raul Gonzalez's men seemed to be getting the better of their opponents, flexing their muscles when it came to defending. This time, however, it was in attack that the Parisians missed several chance to go to +2. They did manage to break the deadlock just before half-time, however, after another burst of acceleration (30': 14-16).

After the break, the line-up changed, but not Paris' domination. Luc Steins, who came on for the second half, put on a real show at both ends of the court to widen the gap further and further. Les Rouge et Bleu went as far as eight goals clear before the Germans resurfaced. In the final moments, the Parisians' cutting edge, which had done so much good, seemed to evaporate. Our lead melted like snow in the sun as the temperature in the stadium rose. Finally, after Kamil Syprzak's last-gasp penalty, Paris Saint-Germain Handball broke the deadlock and held out until the buzzer (60': 29-30). Our players will be back on the court on Saturday. This time they face Gummersbach.
