Viran Morros: 'If I score from time to time, I'm happy'

After arriving at Paris Saint-Germain Handball in the summer, Viran Morros sat down to talk to us about his first matches with the Rouge et Bleu and his adaptation to life in France.

Psg.fr: How was your first Paris Saint-Germain Handball match, at Coubertin against Ivry (38-21)?
Viran Morros: It was great! The atmosphere was really good. I'm very happy, because we got the win, and that's the most important thing. I felt good. It was special for me as I'm new to the club. But once the match started, everything played out very well.

You didn't concede many goals. Are you happy with the defensive performance?
Titi (Omeyer) helped us a lot! I think the work our defence did went very well, even though we can still improve, especially across different tactical systems.

In attack, you stepped up with four goals…
That's pretty special for me! It's almost abnormal… it's not really my job [laughs]. I'm there to defend and stop the opposition's attacking moves. But if I score from time to time, I'm happy."

How do you find the level of the Lidl StarLigue?
This league is very strong; for me, it' the best in the world. There are good teams, who are all very physical. The players who play here are very strong.

After your win over Zaporozhye on Wednesday (29-35), what do you make of your Velux EHF Champions League group?
Even though the group might seem less complicated than Group A, it's still a very tough bunch of teams. We will have other away games that will be very tough, to Szeged, Zagreb, Celje, Skjern… they won't be easy matches. But in any case there are no easy matches in the Champions League! The mot important thing is to top the group. That would mean we could skip the round of 16.

How have your first months in France been?
The club has done all they can to help me integrate as quickly as possible. Paris is a fantastic city. I haven't had a chance to see everything yet but I'm very happy to be here. I had already played with some of the lads (Nikola Karabatic, Luc Abalo and Rodrigo Corrales). It's much easier than arriving at a team where you don't know anyone…

You also already knew Raul Gonzalez…
We've known each other for ages… I know how he works. It's easy to be coached by him. He makes us work very hard and that's a very good thing.

You seem to be very expressive out on the court. Is that something that helps you?
That's just how I am… I like to give the team energy. I shout a lot, but it's positive. It's very important in order to stay focused during a match.
