Nikola Karabatic: Final tribute to a legend
Following Les Rouge et Bleu's victory over Limoges in Liqui Moly StarLigue Matchday 26 action on Sunday 4 May (37-26), Paris Saint-Germain Handball paid a special tribute to Nikola Karabatic.
Into the Paris Saint-Germain Handball Hall of Fame
Between 2015 and 2024, Nikola Karabatic shaped his own history as well as that of the capital club. Nine seasons, 348 matches, 804 goals and titles, many titles. Twenty-five to be precise. So, almost a year after his club career ended with a 16th French championship title, his ninth with Les Rouge et Bleu, it was time to pay a final tribute to an eternal legend.
On Sunday, following another victory for Raul Gonzalez's men against Limoges (37-26), Nikola Karabatic joined four other Paris Saint-Germain Handball legends with their capital club jerseys on display high up at Coubertin: Patrice Annonay (Parisian between 2005 and 2016 and current assistant coach of the capital club), Luc Abalo (2012-2020), Mikkel Hansen (2012-2022), and Christophe Dubois, a long-standing member of the technical staff who left us too soon last summer.
Four names and four numbers that have marked the history of Paris Saint-Germain and will remain forever etched in our collective memory. The iconic number 44 made its appearance at the top of the Coubertin arena at the end of a moving tribute, before being celebrated by the Coubertin crowd, who, as always, turned out in force for the occasion.
