Preview: 5 things about Frontignan - Paris

On Tuesday evening, the season begins! Paris Saint-Germain Handball kick off their season with a round-of-16 clash in the Coupe de France against Frontignan.

1 - BACK TO WORK

Les Rouge et Bleu return to official competition after a strong preseason that took them to Japan and Germany (in total, they played five friendlies, winning four and losing just one). The other competitions will be starting soon, with the Trophée des Champions against Nantes on Saturday, and the resumption of the Liqui Moly StarLigue with the visit of Limoges next week.

2 - FRONTIGNAN'S PAST SEASON

Frontignan were one of the surprise packages of the last ProLigue season. The Hérault outfit were promoted from Nationale 1 and right away finished fifth, coming close to earning direct promotion to the top flight but losing out to Pontault-Combault in the play-offs.

3 - A SPECIAL MATCH FOR NIKO

Nikola Karabatic recently announced his retirement from sport at the end of the season, but he is starting his final season in a special way. Indeed, he will be taking to the court of a club he knows well, having played for Frontignan as a youngster before signing for neighbouring Montpellier.

4 - PROLIGUE AGAINST LIQUI MOLY STARLIGUE

As was the case last year, this first round of the Coupe de France pits the ProLigue against the top-flight clubs. All the Liqui Moly StarLigue teams travel to the home ground of the teams ranked below them in the hierarchy.
