Preview: 5 things about Chartres - Paris

Paris Saint-Germain Handball are back in action! On Saturday evening, after a month and a half of international break, they return to competition away to Chartres in the Coupe de France quarter-finals at the Halle Jean Cochet.

1 - SO FAR

Chartres entered the Coupe de France in September with a 38-33 victory over Massy in the round of 16 and then followed up with a thrilling win over Dunkerque (34-33). Serbian left winger Vanja Ilic, with 13 goals in two games in this competition, is clearly one to watch.

Les Rouge et Bleu also played - and won - two rounds to book this clash with Chartres. After beating Strasbourg (22-36), they managed to qualify against a strong Chambéry (31-30). Our players were able to rely on the golden right arm of Elohim Prandi, who scored ten times that day.

2 - DOUBLE TITLE HOLDER

The capital club are once again challenging for the trophy. They have won the last two editions, first against Montpellier in Créteil (30-26) then, last season, after a hotly contested final against Nantes (36-31), at the Accor Arena. As a reminder, Paris have won the Coupe de France six times, which makes them the second-most successful team in the competition's history, behind Montpellier, who have 13 titles.

3 - THE LEAGUE CLASH

Chartres and Paris have already crossed paths this season. On 18 November, the match was far from a walk in the park at the Halle Jean Cochet. Raul Gonzalez's men were buffeted for most of the match (56': 31-30) before making the difference in the dying minutes (32-33), thanks in particular to Kamil Syprzak's 10 from 10.

4 - BACK TO WORK

Paris Saint-Germain Handball are back on the court after a month-and-a-half break for the 2023 World Cup, during which Ferran Solé Sala (bronze), Nikola Karabatic, Elohim Prandi, Mathieu Grébille and Luka Karbaatic (silver) won medals. Their last league match was at the end of December, when they prevailed in the clash against arch-rivals Nantes.
