Luka Karabatic: 'We didn't give an inch'

Despite defeat at the Palau Blaugrana in Barcelona in Velux EHF Champions League Matchday 5 action on Saturday evening (36-32), Paris Saint-Germain Handball gave a good account of themselves. Raul Gonzalez, Luka Karabatic and Viran Morros gave us their thoughts on the match.

Raul Gonzalez (Paris Saint-Germain Handball coach):
"This game was complicated because our opponents were very good. There was also fatigue and we had a few absentees. We started well, but then we had rotation problems. That's why I opted for a seven-man attack. All the teams in the group have dropped points, so we'll do the maths at the end. We've just come out of a complicated month and a half, where we won all our Lidl StarLigue matches, which is very important for us."

Luka Karabatic (Paris Saint-Germain Handball pivot):
"There were ups and downs in this meeting. They took off at the end of the first and beginning of the second half. They saw that we had a small squad, so they played at a very high tempo. The objective was to tire us out. But we didn't give an inch, even though we were in a hard physical situation. We must not forget that. We ended up losing by four goals, but it could have been worse. We have nothing to be ashamed of in this defeat. We've been fighting for several games, but here it's always complicated to win. We needed the perfect match, but we fell short. There are always defeats in a season, so there is nothing to be alarmed about."

Viran Morros (Paris Saint-Germain Handball left-back):
"It was difficult for us. Barcelona played a great game and we ran out of energy. But having absentees is no excuse; we need to play better. Our first 20 minutes were good, especially defensively. But here, it's complicated to win. Sometimes you lose, but we are not satisfied with this result. We fought to the end because we know that goal difference is important."
