Group B results - Matchday 1

Paris Saint-Germain Handball kicked off their European season with a 34-31defeat at Veszprém on Thursday. Check out the rest of the results from EHF Champions League group B.

Flensburg - Barcelona: 21-25
On Wednesday, Flensburg and reigning champions Barcelona got the Champions League season under way in one of the many big clashes we will see in this Group B. It was a hard-fought encounter in which the German side, hampered by a difficult start against Gonzalo Perez de Vargas (who was voted best goalkeeper of the week, with 17 saves out of 42 attempts), never managed to make up for their early deficit. They came close on several occasions, however. But it was the Blaugrana, led by a seven-goal Dika Mem, who emerged victorious from this duel.

Dinamo Bucharest - Kielce: 32-29
This group stage looks like it will bring us a lot of entertaining matches, as even the so-called 'underdog' teams have what it takes to beat their more storied opponents. This was certainly the case for Dinamo Bucharest as they took on Dylan Nahi's Kielce, with Raul Nantes shining brightly. The Brazilian left-back managed to score on all eleven of his shots while the Poles had some difficulties working their way to goal and, once they did, they had to face a Saeid Heidarirad in imperious mood. The side who travel to Coubertin to take on Paris in their Matchday 2 fixture next Thursday at Coubertin sent out a strong message.

Zaporozhye - Porto: 30-27
Zaporozhye pivot Viachaslau Bokhan was the driving force in his side's win over Porto, firing at 100% with a devastating 8 from 8. The Ukrainians were in complete control of their game against a Portuguese side who had to chase the game for a long time - and who never quite managed to catch up. The main cause? Their poor shooting, with just 54% of their attempts finding the back of the net. At the other end of the court, the Ukrainians combined precision with style, as illustrated by Zakhar Denysov's superb strike with his back to goal.
