Group A results - Matchday 5

On Thursday, in addition to Paris Saint-Germain Handball's match in Kielce (35-33), three other matches took place in EHF Champions League Group A - check out all the results.

Flensburg - Elverum: 37-35
Once again, Elverum proved they are a side not to be taken lightly. Away to Flensburg, they went close to pulling off the feat of the week by getting a point in Germany. Unfortunately for them, Luc Abalo (three goals) and his teammates fell too far behind (42': 27-22) to hope to bring something back, Goran Johannssen plundering no fewer than 11 goals. Avery good last ten minutes allowed them to make up part of their deficit, but they couldn't quite catch their foes. The Norwegians remain seventh while the Germans share the lead with Kielce.

Vardar - Porto: 25-25
The award for top performance of Matchday 5 has to go to Porto! The Portuguese managed to keep pace away to reigning European champs Vardar - in Macedonia! The visitors could even have come back with a better result had they stayed tight in defence in the final minutes (53': 22-24). IN they end they can be happy with the point as, without a last-gasp leveller from Antonio Areia Rodrigues, the Blue and Whites would have tasted defeat once. They now sit in fourth place, just in front of Skopje.

Meshkov Brest - Szeged: 26-24
Meanwhile, Meshkov Brest continued to show some strong form with a third victory in five games. No mean feat considering that the Belarusians were playing host to the mighty Szeged, who had a narrow lead at half-time (30': 11-12). But Brest bucked the trend in the second half, thanks in particular to Slovenian centre-half Jaka Malus, who scored seven times from his seven attempts. The Belarusians sit in third, while Szeged prop up the group.
