Group A results

Following Les Rouge et Bleu's 31-29 victory over Pelister on Wednesday evening, check out all the results from Group A on the opening day of the EHF Champions League season.

Sporting CP 34-29 Wisla Plock

Back in Europe's top club competition for the first time since 2019 after completing the domestic treble last season, Sporting CP struck a blow against Plock. Martim Costa, top scorer at Euro 2024, was one of the main factors behind Portugal's success, converting ten of his 12 attempts. The Poles will be looking to make up for lost time next week when they host Bucharest, while Sporting travel to Denmark to take on Fredericia.

Dinamo Bucharest 37-28 Fredericia

The only newcomers to this 2024-2025 edition failed to create a sensation against the attacking armada of Bucharest and their new coach, David Davis. Led by their new recruit Haukur Thrastarson (six goals), the Romanians made the most of their return to the Champions League after a season's absence. On Matchday 2, they travel to Plock, while Fredericia will be looking for their first-ever European win when they take on Sporting CP.

Füchse Berlin 31-32 Veszprém

In a clash that lived up to all its promises, Veszprém recorded a benchmark victory away to Berlin, who were making their Champions League comeback after an 11-year absence. Spurred on by their fans, the Germans led for much of the first half before being caught out by the experienced Hungarians and their new manager, Xavi Pascual. With their backs to the wall at the break (30': 16-16), Berlin had to contend with the prowess of former Parisian Nedim Remili, who scored 11 goals and was a real threat throughout the match. The Berliners can only regret that the splendid performances from Dejan Milosavljej (17 saves) and Mathias Gidsel (ten goals) were not enough to secure a result. Veszprém will play host to Les Rouge et Bleu on Matchday 2, while Füchse Berlin will take on Pelister in Northern Macedonia.
