Group A results

Paris Saint-Germain Handball rounded out their 2023 European year with a convincing win away to Aalborg on Thursday. Here's a look at the other results from Group A on EHF Champions League Matchday 10.

KIEL - KOLSTAD: 26-25

Kiel played host to Kolstad on EHF Champions League Matchday 10 in a crucial game in the race for direct qualification for the quarter-finals, and the Germans came out on top in a thrilling encounter at the Wunderino-Arena. Dominant in the first half (30': 15-12), Kiel then came up against an imperious Torbjorn Bergerud in the second half (14 saves), even allowing the Norwegians to take a two-point lead into money time. However, the Kielers held on for the win at the buzzer, consolidating their top spot with a three-point lead over Aalborg and Kielce. For their part, Kolstad dropped to seventh place, and are now out of the qualifying places for the finals.

SZEGED - KIELCE: 26-25

Defeated in Zagreb last week, Szeged needed to win to finish the year among the qualifying places, and they did just that. The Hungarians dominated throughout the match, but they had a scare in the final ten minutes, when the Poles came close to overturning a six-goal deficit. Against Kielce, Szeged - now fifth - achieved a minor feat. With this win, the hosts are back in the running in Group A, level on points with the Parisians and one point behind Aalborg and Kielce, Kiel's runners-up.

PELISTER - ZAGREB: 22-23

Finally, at the same time as the match between Les Rouge et Bleu and Aalborg, the match of death took place between Pelister and Zagreb. With the sides occupying the bottom two places in Group A, the Macedonians needed a win to keep their hopes of qualification for the finals alive, while Zagreb also needed a win to stay on the right track. In a match in which the goalkeepers were particularly outstanding, Matej Mandic (19 saves at 49%) won his duel with Khalifa Ghedbane (14 saves at 41%) to give Zagreb a major boost, while at the same time condemning Pelister, who are still stuck on zero points after ten matches. Proof of the intensity of Group A is the fact that only two points separate Aalborg and Kielce, tied in second, from Zagreb, currently sixth and on track to qualify for the quarter-finals.
