Group A results

For the return of the EHF Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain Handball clinched an excellent win in Zagreb (30-33) to go top of Group A! Check out the rest of the results from Matchday 11.

VESZPRÉM - GOG: 36-37

In the upset of the round, group leaders Veszprém fell at home to Gudme Oure Gudbjerg Handball (GOG) in a high-scoring encounter. The Hungarians seemed to be in control at the break (30': 21-19), but they struggled early on the second term and their opponents led throughout half. Despite a late surge, the hosts missed an equaliser in the dying seconds and thus saw Les Rouge et Bleu take the top spot in the group from them. The Danes are fourth and the win represents a big step towards qualification.

PLOCK - MAGDEBURG: 25-24

Magdeburg won at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin just before the break (33-37) and thus travelled as favourites to Plock, who are in the red zone. But there too, after a suspenseful match, the underdogs took the day. The Poles' victory came first of all thanks to a superb first half, which saw them head into the break with a four-points lead (30': 14-10). The second half was more difficult, but they managed to hold out until the very last moments of the game and had a dramatic save from Marcel Jastrzebski (best goalkeeper of the week) to thank for the win. Plock climb to within one point of the qualification places, while Magdeburg missed a great opportunity to pull up on future opponents Veszprém while also seeing Paris take a four-point lead.

PORTO - BUCHAREST: 32-23

A first for Porto! After 11 games, the Portuguese team got its first European success of the season (they were the last team in the competition without a win). The match was a last chance for the Blue and Whites, who could have been eliminated from the Champions League at the end of the match. But with their backs against the wall, they responded perfectly thanks to Nikolaj Christensen and Jack Thruin, who each scored seven goals. At the other end of the court, Nikola Mitrevski also put in a fine display, winning 12 duels with the Romanian forward line. The win moved Porto to within five points of their opponents, who occupy the first non-elimination place.
