Five things on Meshkov Brest-PSG Handball

On Wednesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain Handball travel to Belarus to take on Meshkov Brest in their EHF champions league Matchday 3 clash.

Mixed starts
Before playing host to Paris Saint-Germain Handball EHF Champions League Matchday 3 action, Meshkov Brest have two points in group A. After beating Vardar Skopje (24-22), the Belarusians were defeated in Porto (29-27) last week. For their part, Les Rouge et Bleu have played only one match so far - their defeat against Flensburg (28-29).

Marko Panic brings the danger
During the first matches, one Brest player stood out from the crowd: 29-year-old left-back Marko Panic. The Bosnian is currently the top scorer in his team with 15 goals, including a 6 from 6 in the victory over Vardar. As a reminder, Marko Panic played for Lidl StarLigue side Chambéry for five seasons, scoring 309 goals in 119 appearances in France. Another one to keep an eye on will be the club's newest recruit, Slovenian playmaker Stas Skube, who played alongside Dainis Krsitopans and for coach Raul Gonzalez at Vardar, where he won the 2019 edition of the Champions League.

Neck and neck
The last confrontation between these two sides took place in season 2017-18. The first round was won by the capital club (32-28), thanks in particular to an excellent Uwe Gensheimer, who found the back of the net seven times with as many attempts. In Belarus, it was the hosts who won (29-28), well led by the ten goals of Petar Djordjic (now at Benfica), who struck dramatically in the last minute.

All guns blazing in the league
On Sunday afternoon, Paris Saint-Germain Handball started their Lidl StarLigue season in the best possible way, beating Aix at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin (34-31). Brest, meanwhile, have already played five matches in their league campaign and won them all. Their most recent victory was achieved on Saturday, against Bgufk Minsk (37-32), with notably a seven-goal haul from Skube.
