End of the road for Les Bleus at the World Championship
On Thursday, a France team featuring Luka Karabatic, Elohim Prandi and Mathieu Grébille lost to Croatia in the semi-finals of the World Championship (28-31).
Buoyed by more than 15,000 fans who packed the Arena Zagreb, Croatia overcame France in a clash that lived up to all expectations (28-31). Trailing 11-18 in the first half, Guillaume Gille's men were unable to find a way to close the gap in the second. Elohim and Mathieu each found the net, but with Dominik Kuzmanovic unstoppable for long periods (15 saves), it was not enough to bring the reigning European champions back into the game.
In the final, the Croatia of future Parisian Mateo Maras, who put in a fine performance on Thursday (4 goals), will face the winner of the other semi-final, which pits Jannick Green and Jacob Holm's Denmark against Portugal. France, for their part, will face the loser, with their sights set on a bronze medal in Oslo on Sunday.
