EHF Champions League Round of 16 first leg results

Les Rouge et Bleu got themsevles into a great position with a win in Poland against Wisla Plock on Thursday (26-30). Check out the results of all the other matches from the first leg of the EHF Champions League Round of 16.

GOG - KIELCE: 25-33

Two-time defending finalists Kielce showed no mercy against GOG in Odense in a one-sided encounter that saw Andreas Wolff (14 saves) and Alex Dujshebaev (9 goals) shine. The two stars of the Polish side were the driving force behind Kielce's success, and were logically rewarded with a place in the team of the matchday, which also included Kamil Syprzak and Elohim Prandi. The competition's top scorer, Emil Madsen, was no match for the German 'keeper, who took his side a big step closer to qualification for the quarter-finals, where they will meet Magdeburg in a replay of the last Champions League final.

ZAGREB - MONTPELLIER: 27-27

Montpellier put up a great fight in an electric Zagreb Arena to earn a draw in Croatia. Leading for most of the match, Patrice Cannayer's men will be keen to finish the job at home next week and reach the quarter-finals against Kiel. Zagreb, meanwhile, just a few weeks after dealing Les Rouge et Bleu a shock defeat, once again gave it their all and came within a whisker of creating another sensation, driven by young talents such as Matej Mandic and Milos Kos.

SZEGED - VESZPRÉM: 30-37

In a replay of last season's last 16 fixture, Veszprém got the better of their historic rivals in a Hungarian duel that lived up to all its promises. After an even first half (30': 17-20), Hugo Descat (seven goals) and his team picked up the pace to win in style, taking a serious step towards qualification for the next round, where they will face Aalborg.
