Round of 16 return leg results

Paris Saint-Germain Handball booked their place in the quarter-finals of the EHF Champions League with a 34-33 victory over Plock on Thursday evening. Check out the other results from the Round of 16.

KIELCE- GOG: 33-28

Having already taken an excellent lead on Danish soil a week earlier (25-33), all Kielce had to do on Wednesday was finish the job at Hala Legionow. Led by the unstoppable Alex Dujshebaev, who scored seven goals from ten attempts, the Poles were in complete control of the game and seemed to have the points in hand by half-time (30': 16-12). In the final 30 minutes, they confirmed their mastery over the entire 120-minute double-header and will now turn their attention to the quarter-finals, where they will face Magdeburg for the second season in a row.

MONTPELLIER - ZAGREB: 30-24

Almost frustrated after a fine performance in their 27-27 draw in Zagreb, Montpellier were nonetheless in a good position to continue their European adventure. Although the game was no picnic (30': 14-14), Montpellier put in a fine performance in the run-up to the final minutes, making the difference against a Croatian side that had to pay dearly for their efforts. Matei Mandic made 14 saves to keep defeat at bay, but in the end Zagreb had to bow to MHB's collective strength. MHB will face Kiel in the next round.

VESZPREM - SZEGED: 39-32

In this Hungarian duel, Vespzrém had already taken care of business in the first leg to secure a slightly easier second encounter (30-37). Once again, the Reds' supremacy was evident. Belarus left-winger Mikita Vailupau was one of the driving forces behind his side's success, scoring from eight of his nine attempts. Veszprém thus clinched a deserved double victory that took them through to the quarter-finals. The task will not be easy there, however, as the Hungarians will have to overcome Aalborg to reach Cologne.

The quarter-final fixtures:

  • Paris - Barcelona
  • Montpelier - Kiel
  • Kielce - Magdeburg
  • Vespzrém - Aalborg

The first legs will take place on 24 and 25 April. The back legs will be played on 1 and 2 May.
