Egypt and the Netherlands on track, Poland and Norway stumble

Check out how the Parisians taking part in the Handball World Championship are faring with this look at all the action from Wednesday 15 January!

EGYPT - ARGENTINA: 39-25

Yahia Omar and his team made a successful start to the tournament with a comprehensive victory over Argentina. The Parisian full-back put in a solid performance, scoring three goals from five attempts. Leading at the break (21-11), the Pharaohs went on to claim their first win of the preliminary round. Next up: Bahrain on Friday 17 January.

NETHERLANDS - GUINEA: 40-23

It was a similar story for the Dutch, who kicked off their World Cup campaign with a clear victory over Guinea. Their two Parisian centre-halves played well, with Luc Steins scoring a goal and Dani Baijens shooting 4 from 6. The Oranje face Northern Macedonia, who held Hungary 27-27 in their opening game of the competition on Friday.

GERMANY - POLAND: 35-28

The stakes were a little higher for Kamil Syprzak's Poland, who lost to one of the teams with a strong chance of reaching the final. Despite scoring six goals from 11 attempts, the Parisian pivot was unable to prevent his side's defeat. They will be looking to make up for lost ground on Friday against the Czech Republic, who drew 17-17 with Switzerland in their opening match.

NORWAY - BRAZIL: 26-29

Norway stumbled in their opening match! In Oslo, against a Brazil side that was strong defensively, particularly in the 2nd half (conceding just 12 goals), the tournament co-hosts fell, despite Parisian Kent Robin Tønnesen's three goals. The Norwegians will face the United States, who were beaten by Portugal (30-21), in Oslo this Friday for Matchday 2 of the Preliminary Round.
