David Balaguer: 'First, we have to beat Strasbourg'

On Tuesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain Handball returns to the Coupe de France, for a round of 16 match in Strasbourg. Before the match, David Balaguer gave us a few words on his first months with Les Rouge et Bleu.

How have your first weeks at the club been?

"Very well. We had the training camp in Tignes, where we worked a lot. We had double sessions almost every day. But we also spent a lot of time talking, to get to know each other better. We finished tired, but we were happy."

Among the players you already knew, there is Ferran (Solé Sala)...

"With Ferran, we've known each other for a very long time. We used to play against each other when we were playing in Spain when we were about 15 years old. Then we met again in the national team. He has helped me a lot with my adaptation. He also gave me indications about the style of play in Paris."

How do you feel about the team this season?

"I am very optimistic. There have been many new arrivals. I think that if we are ambitious, we will have a great season. We don't know where we will be in May, but if we work well, we can achieve our goals."

What are your goals?

"First of all we want to win the championship. That's the last title I need. We also want to have a good season in the EHF Champions League."

There is also the Coupe de France. What does it mean to you?

"I have already played in two finals, one of which I lost a few months ago against Paris [laughs]. The winner is often the one who wants to win it the most. We want to go far, but so do the other teams. First, we have to beat Strasbourg."
