Adama Keïta: 'There's a feeling of unfinished business'

Confined to his home the Paris region, Adama Keïta experienced winning the French league title with Paris Saint-Germain from distance. In an interview with PSGTV, the left-winger from the handball section gave us his take on the current situation.

Confined at home - like the rest of the French population - Adama Keita did not have the pleasure of celebrating the club's seventh French handball league title with his team-mates. Indeed, the LNH officially called a stop to the championship with eight games to go, thus confirming Paris Saint-Germain's French sixth successive league title.

And while Les Rouge et Bleu's dominance is undisputed (they have not lost a single game this season), the title celebration remains in abeyance as they await a reunion with their team-mates. It's a situation that Adama Keita has never seen before: "Because we're all sequestered, the championship has come to a standstill for us. As a result, we were named champions. I'm feeling a bit peculiar, because I think there's a feeling of unfinished business. Until everything stopped, we were undefeated. But we're very happy, we'll accept the title anyway."

These words echo those of Nikola Karabatic, who also confided: "I'll remember this title all my life... Let's say I have mixed feelings. On the one hand I'm happy and I say to myself that this title was really deserved given our domination in all the domestic competitions this season. But on the other hand, there is sadness because we would have liked to finish the season. There is a bit of bitterness because we performed well until then, we were on a good dynamic and we felt great. And then, above all, we would have liked to enjoy this title together, to celebrate it as a team. We play a collective sport to share such emotions among ourselves, within the team, and also with our fans. But we're not going to complain. There are people who are in much worse situations than we are right now. People are getting sick, people are dying..."

Until he and his team-mates can fully savour the seventh league title in the club's history, Adama Keita is staying busy: "We don't know how it's going to go. We don't know whether we're going to resume training, because apparently we're going to start the season later than expected. So I think there's going to be a resumption just before the holidays. Every day, I do my sport, I give online courses, so it also allows me to train. It keeps me busy, it keeps me going, at least I'm sweating and it's good for me."

And while this period is not easy for sportsmen, the n°9 also spared a thought for all handball lovers: "Try to keep yourself busy, stay at home, do a maximum of sport, in one way or another, and be good citizens. See you soon on the courts!"
