Paris Saint-Germain Handball crowned Champions of France

On Tuesday 14 April, the National Handball League (NHL) announced its decision "to put a definitive end to the championships and to freeze the rankings at the end of the last full round played (R18). The titles of champions are thus awarded to Paris for the Lidl Star League, and to Cesson-Rennes for the Pro League. The NHL will submit to the EHF the files of Paris for the Champions League, as well as those of Nantes, Nimes, Montpellier and Toulouse for the European Handball League."

A little further on in its press release, the NHL specified the following procedural point, which will not call into question the decision taken on Tuesday: "A General Assembly of the NHL will be convened within a fortnight to formalise the options validated by the Management Committee, and to translate them into the League's regulatory texts after having taken into account the positions of the French Handball Federation."

Incidentally, the NHL also cancelled the Coupe de la Ligue Final4, for which Les Rouge et Bleu had qualified. Recently, the Coupe de France, in which Raul Gonzalez's men were also competing, was also cancelled.

Although it comes in a special and much less festive context than in previous years, this new French championship title nonetheless illustrates the extraordinary consistency of Paris Saint-Germain Handball in recent years. This Lidl StarLigue 2020 title is the seventh for the Club since 2013. A major fact: this championship title is the 6th to be won in a row, a first in the long history of the French handball championship.

Still competing in the Champions League, the Parisians are now awaiting the decision of the European Handball Federation (EHF) as to whether to continue the European competitions in the 2019-2020 season.
