A look back on PSG Handball - Szeged
On 22 September, Paris Saint-Germain Handball played host to the mighty Szeged in Velux EHF Champions League Round 2 action at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin. A look back on this awesome match…
On this Sunday in late summer, it was with a sense of accomplishment that the two teams met in the Parisian arena. While the Hungarians had won their opening match against Barcelona (31-28), the club from the capital had won in Croatia against Zagreb.

A week later, Paris and Szeged faced each other at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin in a match that would prove decisive in the final outcome of the group stage.
A few months after leaving Les Rouge et Bleu to join the Hungarian team, Luka Stepancic (three-time French champion, winner of a Coupe de France and two Coupes de la Ligue with our team) was already back on his old stomping ground. It was an opportunity for the Croatian international to talk to his former team-mates before the match.

As expected, it was a very close game. Despite a good start from Raul Gonzalez's men (6': 4-1), the visitors were soon back in the game thanks to the inevitable Richard Bodo (14': 7-7).

Despite a tense first half (23': 14-13), it was our players who returned to the dressing room with a slight lead after a late goal from Sander Sagosen (30': 16-14).

In the second half, the Parisians increased their lead, led by an excellent Nikola Karabatic. Our playmaker gave a real master class that day, scoring from all positions! In fact, he was the top scorer of the game with eight goals.
Finally, after a very good performance, Paris Saint-Germain Handball struck a great blow by defeating one of the leading teams of the competition. The latter eventually finished second in Group A, just ahead of their direct opponents.
