It was in his native Germany, that the defender started his career. Born in Tübingen to a German father and a mother originally from Burundi (thanks to whom he speaks fluent French), it was in Stuttgart that he started to play football, before joining one of the best academies in Europe, with Schalke 04.
A German U19 Champion in 2015 as captain of his side, he broke into the first team squad at just 19 years old and continued to represent his country at every age group.
At just 21 years old, his versatile attributes (capable of playing at centre back or full-back) attracted Paris Saint-Germain and he joined in August 2018. That same summer, the new number 4 was called up to the prestigious Nationalmannschaft for the first time.
