A domestic treble to the Champions League… Paris’ 2024 in Review!

From the first trophy at the Parc des Princes to a fantastic end to the year, via an unforgettable run in the UEFA Champions League and a domestic treble, let's take a look back at a thrilling, successful and fulfilling 2024 for Paris Saint-Germain.

2024 began with a trophy at Le Parc

After a dominant display, Paris Saint-Germain won the Trophée des Champions for the 12th time in their history - an all-time record in the competition – courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Coupe de France winners Toulouse FC to claim their first trophy of the year. It was the perfect start to year and set the tone for what was in store for fans of Les Rouge et Bleu for the coming 12 months…

A great run to the Champions League  semis

After emerging from the ‘group of death’ comprising Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Newcastle United, the club from the French capital reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in three years thanks to victory over Real Sociedad (4-1 on aggregate). At this stage of the competition, every detail counts, and Paris were reminded of that in their last-8 first leg clash with Barcelona, which they lost 2-3 at home to a more clinical Spanish side.

Paris embarked on (almost) mission impossible, and enjoyed an unforgettable night in Catalonia, brilliantly charging into the semi-finals with a 4-1 demolition of a Barcelona side completely overwhelmed by the Parisians’ spirit. It was the fourth time in the club’s history that Paris Saint-Germain had reached the last four of the competition!

Another milestone in the history of Paris Saint-Germain

Unbeaten since September 2023 and 26 games in Ligue 1, the capital club were twelve points clear of runners-up Monaco at the top of the table on 28 April, and could not be caught. On the evening of matchday 31, captain Marquinhos (who had just broken the record for the most games played for Paris a week earlier) and his teammates clinched the 12th French Ligue 1 title in the club's history, after those of 1986, 1994, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023.

The latest triumph saw Paris Saint-Germain reach the symbolic milestone of 50 trophies... before adding another, one month later, on 25 May 2024, by winning the 15th Coupe de France in Lille, defeating Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 at the end of a grandiose final. It saw Les Rouge et Bleu complete a resounding domestic treble in Luis Enrique's first season in charge.

Leading from the front

12 wins, 4 draws and 0 defeats. It’s an impressive record for Les Parisiens, just one match away from the midway point of the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season. With a total of 40 points from just 16 games played, an average of 2.5 points per game, Achraf Hakimi and Co. getting the most out of an already glorious 2024. With wins over Marseille (0-3), Lyon (3-1), Monaco (2-4), Lille (1-3), Lens (1-0) and Rennes (3-1), Paris Saint-Germain are top of the league.

It all bodes well for the second half of the season, which is already shaping up to be a thrilling one, with Les Rouge et Bleu once again fighting on all fronts: in Ligue 1, of course, but also in the Champions League and the Coupe de France. And just like this year, Les Rouge et Bleu can ring in 2025 with silverware as they take on Monaco in the Trophée des Champions at the Stadium 974 in Doha on 5 January at 19:30 local time (17:30 French time), as part of the Visit Qatar Tour.
