They've done it! Paris reach the final

It's done! For the first time in its history, Paris Saint-Germain are through to the final of club football's most prestigious competition. It's an historic moment for the capital club and French football, slap bang in the middle of the club's 50th anniversary week. After Atalanta, Paris stylishly disposed of RB Leipzig, coached by Thomas Tuchel's former player, Julian Nagelsmann.

The Parisian boss opted for a 4-3-3 that saw Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappé return to the starting XI alongside Neymar Jr, the quarter-final Man of the Match.

The Parisians set the tone from the off, dominating possession as they made their way towards the Leipzig penalty area while their opponents sought counter-attack opportunities.

Tuchel had suggested the tandem of Mbappé and Neymar Jr would be key, and the pair immediately set about causing Leipzig problems at the Estadio da Luz.

From a pass from the FIFA World Cup winner, Neymar Jr toe-poked an effort off a post (6'), and the Brazilian number 10 then charged down a clearance, sending the ball Mbappé's way - he finished, but handball in the build-up saw the goal ruled out (7'). Neymar Jr then won the free-kick that was delightfully drifted over by Di Maria, and Marquinhos' exquisitely placed header gave the Rouge-et-Bleu a precious early lead (0-1, 13')!

A Yussuf Poulsen chance aside (25'), the Parisians looked dominant and confident. Mbappé had threatened (16') before a long-range free-kick from Neymar Jr very nearly caught out Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulasci, who was a relieved man as the Brazilian's effort skipped to safety off the outside of a post (35').

The French champions would double their advantage before the break though. Gulasci's ill-advised clearance was picked up high up the pitch, and when Neymar Jr deliciously diverted the ball into the path of Di Maria, the Argentina international coolly took the opportunity (0-2, 42').

There was no surprise to see Leipzig up the tempo after the restart, but the Parisians - boasting the best defence in the competition - were not for moving. It was even a defender who plumped up the Parisians' cushion: Juan Bernat again coming up with a big goal in Europe, heading home as Parisian pressure made the Leipzig defence crack again (0-3, 57'). At the opposite end, Sergio Rico was watchful as he gathered a Marcel Sabitzer shot that curled its way through a crowded penalty area (59').

The Parisians maintained their focus and concentration in the closing half-hour, and could have had more goals. Mbappé (68', 72', 80'), Neymar Jr (77') and Leandro Paredes (79') all might have made the winning margin more impressive.

There was no way through for Leipzig as Paris clinched an historic win and offered themselves a chance to write another glorious chapter on Sunday.

For the first time in its history, Paris Saint-Germain will walk out to contest the Champions League final.
