Stats & Facts: Paris Saint-Germain vs Angers

Match in numbers

Here is all you need to know ahead of this afternoon's Week 9 Ligue 1 match between Paris Saint-Germain and SCO Angers at the Parc des Princes:

A little history...

Angers are an historic rival of Paris Saint-Germain: the Rouge et Bleu's first ever league match was against the SCO on 11 August 1971 and a 2-0 loss for the side from the capital.

Three years later, on 13 August 1974, Paris Saint-Germain won their first-ever home match in the first division at the Parc des Princes with a 3-2 win. The capital club has now won 510 matches in 843 Ligue 1 games at the Parc.

Paris Saint-Germain and Angers now meet for the 25th time. Paris have won 14, drawn seven and lost just three times.

Les Rouge et Bleu are undefeated in their last 21 competitive matches against Angers, since a 3-1 Ligue 1 away loss on 12 January 1975, more than 44 years ago. If Paris avoid defeat tonight, the SCO will join leaders Nantes on 22 consecutive matches without victory against Paris.

12 players have played for both clubs: Loris Arnaud, Claude Arribas, Thierry Bacconnier, Sylvain Bied, Jean-Pierre Bosser, Grégory Bourillon, Jean Deloffre, Jean-Pierre Dogliani, Bruno Germain, Albert Poli, Kalifa Traoré et Pierre Vermeulen. Wilfried Kanga, who never played for the Paris Saint-Germain first team is not included in this list. François M’Pelé (Paris striker between 1973 and 1979), is the only player to have scored a hat-trick against Angers and has a club-high six goals against the SCO. He is followed by Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappé (5 goals), and Edinson Cavani (4 goals).

The stakes...

Les Rouge et Bleu will be looking to bounce back after their 2-0 home loss to Reims on 25 September 2019 in their last game at the Parc des Princes. Paris Saint-Germain haven't lost back to back home games in Ligue 1 since the 2012-13 season (Saint-Etienne 1-2 on 03/11/2012, Rennes 1-2 on 17/11/2012).

The keys to success...

Paris Saint-Germain can count on its excellent defence since the start of the season. After 11 official matches, Les Rouge et Bleu have kept eight clean sheets.

It is the second best start to a season in terms of clean sheets (level with 2015-16) and behind the ten clean sheets in 11 matches to start the 1996-97 campaign.
