Stats & Facts: A look back at the win over Rennes

Match in numbers

Check out the key stats and facts from Les Parisiens’ 3-1 win away to Rennes on Matchday 8 of Ligue 1.

A BREIZH-WORTHY PERFORMANCE

On Sunday evening, Paris inflicted a first defeat of the season on Stade Rennais, beating Les Rouge et Noir for the first time since 2018 and moving four points clear of them in the table with a welcome win that also confirms Luis Enrique's side's excellent away form, as it's their ninth victory on the road in 2023 – no other team in the division has won as many away fixtures in the same time frame.

Paris's efficiency in front of goal also shows no signs of stopping, as last night's game saw them score at least three goals in a Ligue 1 game for the fourth time this season, with only Monaco having done so more often (six times, to be precise) in a French top-flight game in 2023–24.

This particular fixture continues to provide plenty of entertainment, too, as at least one goal has been scored in all of the last 30 encounters between these two sides, with the most recent 0-0 draw dating all the way back to 2010. Finally, Paris have now scored four goals from outside the box in Ligue 1 this season, which is more than any other team in the division has managed so far.

ZAÏRE-EMERY AND HAKIMI KEEP DOING THEIR THING

Having enjoyed a remarkable start to the campaign, Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate Warren Zaïre-Emery notched up another assist on Sunday night as he played in Achraf Hakimi, making him Les Rouge et Bleu's top assist provider so far this season. Speaking of Hakimi, the Morocco international got his third goal and second assist of the season, putting in a complete display that means that he has now been involved in five Ligue 1 goals in 2023–24, with no other defender having done better in this respect across Europe's top five leagues.

Vitinha, meanwhile, continues to turn heads as he bagged himself another goal – a golazo, even – which happens to be his second from outside the penalty area, following on from his long-range strike against Lens and bringing his overall goal tally for PSG up to three. Finally, Ousmane Dembélé provided his second assist of the campaign in symbolic fashion, as it was against the club that nurtured him into a professional footballer.

MARQUI breaks into the TOP two

By featuring for the capital club for the 416th time in all competitions, Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos joined Marco Verratti in second place on the list of Les Rouge et Bleu's all-time top appearance makers. The Brazilian now needs to play in just 20 more matches to knock Jean-Marc Pilorget and his 435 appearances off top spot!
