By winning their first eight official matches of the season, Paris Saint-Germain pulled off the best start to a season in club history. After beating Monaco in the Trophée des Champions (2-1), they toppled Amiens (2-0), Guingamp (3-0), Toulouse (6-2), Saint-Étienne (3-0), Metz (5-1) and Lyon (2-0) in Ligue 1 and then hammered Celtic 5-0 in the Champions League before the run came to a halt with a 0-0 draw against Montpellier. The previous record dated back to 2015-2016, when Paris won their first five official matches: the Trophée des Champions against Lyon (2-0), and Ligue 1 clashes with Lille (1-0 away), Gazélec Ajaccio (2-0) Montpellier (1-0 away) and Monaco (3-0 away), before being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Bordeaux.

Edinson Cavani, who struck 28 times in 32 Ligue 1 Conforama appearances, was crown the league's top scorer for the second season in a row (35 goals in 36 matches in 2016-2017). Before him, only Carlos Bianchi (37 goals in 38 matches in 1977-1978, 27 goals in 36 matches in 1978-1979), Pedro Miguel Pauleta (21 goals in 36 matches in 2005-2006, 15 goals in 33 matches in 2006-2007) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (30 goals in 34 matches in 2012-2013, 26 goals in 33 matches in 2013-2014) had achieved the feat for Paris. Ibrahimovic is still the only one to have been thus crowned a third time, in 2015-2016 (38 goals in 31 matches, a record in capital club history).

By amassing 108 Ligue 1 Conforama strikes, Paris Saint-Germain notched the third-highest goal tally for a club in a single season in France's top flight, coming in with only RC Paris (118) and Reims (109) in 1959-1960 in front of them. The Rouge et Bleu ended the season with the most prolific attack of any team in Europe's top five leagues, ahead of Manchester City (106), Barcelona (99), Bayern Munich (92) and Lazio (89). With 70 goals scored at the Parc des Princes, the capital club set a new record for the number of goals scored at home in a single season, toppling RC Paris' 67 goals in 1959-1960.
