Mauricio Pochettino under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2023
Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce Mauricio Pochettino and his staff are now contracted to the club from the capital until 30 June 2023.
Arriving as coach on 2 January 2021, Mauricio Pochettino is a historic figure at Paris Saint-Germain, a club at which he wore the colours and the captain's armband from 2001 until 2003.
Once his playing career came to an end, the Argentine coached at Espanyol (2009-2012), Southampton (2013-2014) and then Tottenham (2014-2019). He managed Spurs to their first ever Champions League final in 2018-2019.
During his first sixth months in charge of the Paris Saint-Germain squad, Mauricio Pochettino led Les Rouge et Bleu to the semi-finals of the Champions League, with impressive victories at FC Barcelona (4-1) in the first leg of the Round of 16, and over Bayern Munich (3-2) in the first leg of the quarter-finals. Under his orders, the team from the capital also finished in second place in Ligue 1, with 82 points.
Mauricio Pochettino's history at Paris Saint-Germain is also marked by the two trophies taken home by the Murphy-born coach: the Trophée des Champions, which his side won against Olympique de Marseille (2-1), and then the Coupe de France victory over AS Monaco (2-0).
“I'm really very happy, for myself and also for my staff, said Mauricio Pochettino. It's very important for us to feel the confidence of the club and we will give our maximum so that the supporters are proud of Paris Saint-Germain. That's why we will try and reach our objectives all together, as one. Twenty years ago I was captain of this club and today I am the coach… It's a dream come true.”
“We are delighted that Mauricio has reaffirmed his commitment to the Paris Saint-Germain family, said Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Chairman and CEO of Paris Saint-Germain. Having also captained the team 20 years ago, he understands the club values, ambition and vision for the future. With Mauricio’s leadership, we’re excited and confident about what the future holds.”
