Marquinhos: 'We have to win this final'

The Paris Saint-Germain defender gave his thoughts on Saturday's Coupe de France final meeting with Rennes.

THE COUPE, A TEAM EFFORT
"We had two objectives for the end of the season: win the league in style - we've done that - and win the Coupe de France. It's just here in front of us, and we have to give everything and be focussed to pick up this new trophy. Tomorrow, we have to win. We can of course point to the trophies we've already won this season - the Trophée des Champions and L1 - but we also know the club's ambition."

FAVOURITES?
"Being favourites or not, there isn't a lot of difference. One thing counts: the truth out there on the pitch. Trophies won, history, all that is off the pitch. In a final, each team has a 50% chance of winning. All finals are difficult, each final has its context, it's importance. Tomorrow, we have to win."

THE CAPTAINCY
"I don't know if I'll be captain tomorrow, we'll have to see if Thiago Silva is available or not. It's a huge responsibility to wear the captain's armband, it's also a question of honour too with this Paris Saint-Germain shirt. In this role, I have to be available as possible for the squad. Being captain this season has been a great experience for me. Even when we have had tough times, you have to be there for your teammates and I think that has helped me improve a lot. You have to always try to be positive, because it's when times are tough that you analyse things to improve, to go forward."

BACK AT THE STADE DE FRANCE
"Of course I'm happy to be back here. You play in a different environment and when you play at the Stade de France, it means it's a big event. Tomorrow, half the stadium will be Parisian, the other half for Rennes, it's great. I have great memories from here, because each time when I've come here in recent years Paris Saint-Germain has won..."

RENNES
"Rennes caused us a lot of problems when we played them this season. This team has a good playing style made up of quick attacks. They have good footballers who go forward quickly on the counter-attack. To counter that, we'll have to press a lot and be well organised defensively. We'll also come up against Hatem ben Arfa, whom we know well. He and other Rennes players can make the difference, but we mostly have to think about them as a team. That's also the case for us, we'll have to help each other on the pitch, the forwards will have to support the defenders and the opposite is also true. That's how we'll win the match, by being united."

HIS FORM
"After my injury in the Coupe de France semi-final against Nantes, the medical tests reassured me. I just needed to give 100% with the physios and doctors in order to be here. I trusted them and I'm very happy to have recovered. Of course, when a final is coming up, you ask yourself whether you'll be recovered in time, but it's now in the past."

HIS COMPATRIOTS NEYMAR JR AND THIAGO SILVA
"Ney is a very important player for the team and the club. You see on the pitch: he's a player with character and huge quality. He's coming back after a long injury, and we're very happy he's back. As for Thiago Silva, he transmits his strength out on the pitch. He organises play, takes the responsibility of being captain, that helps me play alongside him."
