Georginio Wijnaldum: 'We'll fight to the end'

Ahead of Wednesday's Matchday 4 meeting with Leipzig at the RB Arena (kick-off 9pm CET), the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder reflected on the capital club's UEFA Champions League group stage campaign so far.

Georginio, what are your thoughts on how Paris Saint-Germain have started in Europe this season?

"I think we've done good things given the pressure we had and the opponents we've faced. We'll continue to fight to the end. Besides that, we obviously hope to make our task simpler and win games more easily. It takes time for everyone to get used to each other before you can have a very good team where the players know each other very well. We've already showed that we're here to fight and win games. We hope to win matches more easily than we're doing at the moment. There's a good team spirit, and I think you need that if you want to go far."

How do you see the rest of the competition going?

"In the Champions League, you start in a group before getting to the knockout stage. What we need to do is face every situation we come up against and grow throughout the competition, because these games are always different to any others. I think the Champions League is always different because you play against teams from other countries, and you face different systems and players you don't take on every week. That makes it a tough competition because a supposedly inferior team can win against the better sides. I think we just have to deal with this kind of thing in the best way possible because it's always difficult to say we have to do this or do that. That needs to be our approach because, along the way, you never know what will happen and what we'll have to do. So, I think the team will give its best in all the different situations that might arise so that we can increase our chance of winning games and winning the Champions League."

Next up is the trip to face Leipzig, who caused Paris problems in the match at homeā€¦

"It's always difficult. I think they already showed at the Parc des Princes how good a team they are. They were dominating the match and then we scored two goals. We saw how tough it was. I also think that we, along with Manchester City and Club Brugge, have seen how difficult it is to play against Leipzig. We saw that they can do great things. They'll do everything to repeat what they did last time. So it's going to be a tough game, and also because they'll be playing at home. We'll have to play a very good match to win."
