Fabian Ruiz: 'Put in an intense performance to take the three points'

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder spoke to the press on the eve of Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League against Maccabi Haifa FC on Tuesday 25 October at 21:00 at the Parc des Princes. Extracts.

HIS INTEGRATION

"As the coach said, to begin with it was difficult because I was outside of the squad. I needed time to adapt because I wasn't at my best physically. But I have been able to recover my rhythm as matches have gone by."

HIS PRE-SEASON

"I trained alone for a month at Napoli without doing anything with the ball. It was difficult because I wasn't playing matches, I wasn't involved in the team sessions. I then felt better and better with every session, and then every match. And now I feel in excellent shape to show my full potential on the pitch."

THE RELATIONSHIP WITH marco verratti

"Marco Verratti is a player that I knew, that everyone knows. He helped me a lot to start with. He spoke Italian and he helped me. It's easy to play with someone like Marco. It is always easier to play with the best and Marco is one of the best."

HIS ABILITY TO ADAPT

"I can adapt to any system, to any style. It depends on the match and the coach's decision. In recent years, I have played in a 4-3-3, but I feel just as comfortable in other set-ups. The comparisons with Javier Pastore or Thiago Motta? I was very happy to be compared to them. It's always nice to be compared to top players!"

THE OPPOSITION

"We weren't surprised. We saw a quality team, with pace and an ability to press. The first match was difficult, but we hope to put in an intense performance tomorrow because we need these three points."

HIS FRENCH

"I have started French lessons, but I need a bit more time. I hope that I will be able to do the next press conference in French..."

SPAIN

"There is no problem with the coach, quite the contrary. I wish my teammates the best, I am just focused on my club and tomorrow's match, which is very important for us."

THE ATTACKING trio

"I think that for a midfielder it's a real pleasure to play with forwards like these. We know what they are capable of doing, they are incredible and can win a match in a minute. It's down to us to help them to be in the best possible conditions."
