Everything on Brest-Paris!

History, the stakes and the keys to the match! Check out all you need to know before kick-off in Matchday 3 of Ligue 1 between Paris Saint-Germain and Brest on Friday 20 August at 21:00 (CEST) at the Stade Francis Le Blé.

A bit of history...

Act 38 between Brest and Paris Saint-Germain, and history largely favours the club from the capital, who have come out on top on 21 occasions, drawn 12 and lost only four.

Les Rouge et Bleu haven't been beaten by Les Brestois since 26 January 1985 (1-3 in Brittany in the league), and go into the match on a 9-match winning streak and a 26-match unbeaten run against SB29, a run that makes it into Les Parisiens' top three of all-time, behind Angers (24 matches - ongoing), Saint-Étienne (23 matches - ongoing) and Nantes (22 matches).

At the Stade Francis Le Blé, Les Parisiens are unbeaten in 12 matches (7 wins and 5 draws) and have won the last five in Brittany in competitive encounters. One of the best runs in the club's history, behind those of Lorient (8 wins, 2011-2020), Nantes (7 wins, 2008-2018), and on a par with Valenciennes (6 wins since 2009).

24 players have worn the shirts of both clubs: Claude Barrabé, Daniel Bernard, Jean-Pierre Bosser, Bernard Bureau, Gilles Cardinet, Joël Cloarec, Patrick Colleter, Franck Dja Djédjé, Louis Floch, David Ginola, Vincent Guérin, Lionel Justier, Ahmed Kantari, Bernard Lama, Paul Le Guen, Yvon Leroux, Claude Makélélé, Tripy Makonda, Bandiougou Fadiga, Bernard Mendy, Granddi Ngoyi, William N'Jo Léa, Bernard Pardo and Jocelyn Rico. Gaëtan Charbonnier, Rouge et Bleu during the 2008-2009 season, and Sébastien Cibois, a product of the Paris Academy between 2012 and 2019, don't feature on this list, given that neither appeared in a competitive encounter for the club from the capital.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is Paris Saint-Germain's top scorer against Brest, with six goals to his name. He sits ahead of Dominique Rocheteau (4 goals), Kylian Mbappé and Safet Susic (3 goals).

The stakes...

Les Parisiens will look to make it three in three in Ligue 1 after the wins at Troyes (2-1) and against Strasbourg (4-2).

Les Rouge et Bleu have started their league campaign with three victories on 9 occasions (1985-1986, 1988-1989, 1992-1993,1997-1998, 1999-2000, 2005-2006, 2015-2016, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019).

Paris Saint-Germain's record away from home in the league in 2021 is generally positive, with the club from the capital avoiding defeat in their last 9 away matches in Ligue 1 (8 wins and 1 draw).

THE KEYS TO THE MATCH...

Mauro Icardi has scored in both of the first two matches of this campaign in Ligue 1, and the Argentine forward could equal the feat achieved by Toko (scoring in each of the first three matches in 1981-1982) and Safet Susic (in 1985-1986). The club record is held by Edinson Cavani (5 first league games of a season with at least one goal in 2017-2018), who sits ahead of Neymar Jr (4 matches in 2018-2019).

Les Bretons have scored five own goals against Paris Saint-Germain: Yvon Leroux (on 20/03/1982), Michel Milojevic (on 17/05/1991), Ahmed Kantari (on 24/04/2011), Bernard Mendy (on 21/12/2012) and Romain Faivre (on 23/05/2021). A humorous detail: except for Milojevic and Faivre, all of the players have played for the club from the capital...
