History, what’s at stake and the keys to the match! Find out everything you need to know before the friendly between Paris Saint-Germain and Waasland-Beveren, this Friday July 17 at 19:00 CET at the Parc des Princes.

A little bit of history...

Paris Saint-Germain are taking on Belgian club Waasland-Beveren at the Parc des Princes, a stadium that hasn't hosted many friendly matches in the last decade.

The last friendly played on the pitch at the stadium located by the Porte d’Auteuil was on August 4 2012 in the only edition to this date of the Trophée de Paris between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona (2-2, 1-4 on penalties) in a match that marked the debut at the Parc des Princes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Before that game, with the exception of the Tournoi de Paris in 2010 (a 1-0 victory against FC Porto on 31/07/2010, a 1-1 draw with AS Roma on 01/08/2010), the Rouge et Bleu had only played a couple of friendlies at the Parc des Princes since 2003-2004. They beat Sporting Braga (3-1, 14/11/2009) and the Belgians of KAA Gent, in Claude Makélélé's first game (2-1, 26/07/2008) since the 2003-2004 season.

The Parisians have already played a friendly against Beveren, against KSV Beveren, who gave up their professional status in 2010. The Parisians lost on May 5 1984 at  Stade Jean Bouin by a 3-2 scoreline, with the Paris goals scored by Mustapha Dahleb and Toko, while Ronny Martens netted a hat-trick for Beveren.

Numerous Belgian clubs have played at the Parc des Princes against Paris Saint-Germain in competitive or friendly matches (Anderlecht, Club Brugge KV, KAA Gent, Standard de Liège, Waregem, Waterschei), with a record of 6 wins, 3 draws and just a single defeat for the Parisians.

The only loss for the Rouge et Bleu against a club from the Belgian neighbours took place on July 11 1985, against Waregem (3-4 in the Tournoi de Paris).

One Parisian player particularly appreciated playing against Belgian opposition in 2019-2020: Kylian Mbappé, who scored a hat-trick against Club Brugge KV (0-5) on October 22 2019 in the group stage of the Champions League.
