A bit of history...

Paris Saint-Germain are back on the grass for the first game of the 2021/22 season against Le Mans, who play in the Championnat National. The previous game between the two sides was back on 18 December 2019 in the Sarthe, where the Parisians were victorious (4-1) in the Round of 16 of the Coupe de la Ligue.

The two sides have faced each other 21 times (16 competitive games and 5 friendlies) with the Rouge et Bleu winning 11 times, drawing six and losing four times.

It's the fourth time that the two teams face each other in the first pre-season friendly, with the Parisians winning twice and drawing once (2-1 on 30 June 1988, 3-1 on 30 June 1991, 1-1 on 9 July 1999).

7 players have played for both sides: Willy Grondin, Chiguy Lucau, Jean-Eudes Maurice, Fabrice Moreau, Fabrice Pancrate, Cédric Pardeilhan and Stéphane Sessègnon.

what's at stake...

Paris Saint-Germain will want to carry on their run of victories in pre-season openers, after three wins against Sainte-Geneviève (1-0, on 11 July 2018), at Dynamo Dresden (6-1, on 16 July 2019) and at Le Havre (9-0, on 2 July 2020).

The Parisiens haven't lost their first game since the 2013-2014 season, against the Austrian side Sturm Graz (1-3, on 09/07/2013).

keys to the match...

Who will be the first Parisian goalscorer of the 2021-2022 season? In the last two years, the Rouge et Bleu's first goal has come quickly: 8 minutes for Mauro Icardi against Le Havre last year and just 6 minutes for Kylian Mbappé against Dynamo Dresden in 2019.
