Christopher Nkunku: 'Keep working'

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder faced the press the day before he and his teammates begin their 2018/19 season with the visit of Caen to the Parc des Princes.

CAEN
"There's no 'good' opponent to start the season. It's the first game, it's always difficult. We have to focus on ourselves. We're going to put in place a tactical system and try to respect what the coach tells us to do to win the game. The world champions' return? We have talked to them, they have told us about their adventure. They have experienced something great. It's fantastic to have three World Cup winners in the squad."

PLAYING TIME
"It's an objective of mine to earn some. During pre-season, the main thing was to prepare well. Some players were missing, so a lot of youngsters were in the squad. I took on the role of a leader because I have a bit more experience. I hope to have more playing time, I'm working towards that. I hope to achieve it. I have to keep working, improving, and things will come. Being more clinical in front of goal? I have often been told that, because I have a tendency to not try my luck or to miss some chances! It's important, I try to work on that because attacking players have to make the difference."

THOMAS TUCHEL
"He's a joyful coach, very demanding in training and in terms of our work. He's close to us, talks a lot to us. The communication between the players and the technical staff is positive. We've been trying to work on different systems since the start of pre-season and to try and build up understanding between us."

YOUTH ACADEMY
"I hope we inspire the young players to work, that we serve as examples for them. I don't think that the step up to the professional squad is huge. They have to say to themselves that they have to work hard. A lot of young players signed a professional contract recently. That's a sign of confidence in them. But they mustn't stop there. If they have the opportunity to take part in training sessions, they have to take their chance. Work is everything."
